Karen Lenz
is an editorial and advertising portrait photographer
based out of New York City.

Born and raised in the metro Detroit area, Karen first began her love affair with photography in her high school darkroom. She went on to study Photographic Technology at Washtenaw Community College, where she learned traditional film processes and realized her passion for portraiture. She returned to WCC after the 'digital revolution' and began her studies fresh with digital photography.

During her last years in college Karen also worked as a freelance photographic assistant and retoucher. Just prior to graduation, Karen accepted a position at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops as a Work/Study (intern) where she got the unrivaled opportunity to take
eight one-week workshops with world-class photographers.
She focused her studies there on studio work and portraiture, and spent a lot of time developing the sensual and unique style for which her work is now known.

Karen moved to Santa Fe in February of 2008 to continue with three more seasosn at the workshops, most recently as their Studio Manager. After several visits to New York City to intern with both Platon and Art Department, Karen moved there permanently in November of 2009.

Karen lives in Brooklyn and works as a freelance photographer, photo assistant, and digital tech.
