Karen Lenz
is an editorial and commercial portrait photographer
based out of Detroit, MI and Santa Fe, NM.

Born and raised in the metro Detroit area, Karen first began her love affair with photography in her high school darkroom. She went on to study Photographic Technology at Washtenaw Community College, where she learned traditional film processes and realized her passion for portraiture. She returned to WCC after the 'digital revolution' and began her studies fresh with digital photography.

During her last years in college Karen also worked as a freelance photographic assistant and retoucher. Just prior to graduation, Karen accepted a position at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops as a Work/Study (intern) where she got the unrivaled opportunity to take
eight one-week workshops with world-class photographers.
She focused her studies there on studio work and portraiture, and spent a lot of time developing the sensual and unique style for which her work is now known.

Karen moved to Santa Fe in February of 2008 to work to work as a Course Assistant with the Workshops. In the Summer of 2008 she was hired on as the Studio Assistant. She will be spending the fall travelling, including visiting family in MI and interning in New York City with Platon and
Art Department. She has been hired to return to the Workshops as the Studio Manager for the Winter 2009 season.

Karen is available for freelance editorial work, retouching, and assisting.
